Description

Not a new idea

This does raise another point for discussion - whether I re-enable the option to disable participation.

Primary reason for it would be to reduce data usage, which is something I have seen a couple of users on Irc2P complain about

you should have an option imho

It was disabled prior to GPlay so we didn't run the risk of accidentally choosing the wrong initial setting, because it would be impossible to update the default for existing installs.

  • str4d still wants to see if this can be improved in any way

I still like the idea of 'profiles' you'd pick from on install that would magically config everything

That would definitely be nicer.

And then we would still retain the ability to tweak the specific settings for those profiles

wifi tablet, phone normally on wifi, unmetered phone, metered phone, bad old phone ←— roughly the choices

If you already have a nice idea of what you're imagining in your head, feel free to make a ticket for it ;P

That reminds me, Facebook released an open-source library to help determine the network speed an app has access to.
